SPRINGFIELD, MA- Dennis Horner scored 15 of his season-high 24 points in the first half and six players scored in double figures to lead the Armor to a 111-102 victory over the Idaho Stampede tonight inside the MassMutual Center.
Horner scored 11 points in the second quarter, including 7 points in a span of 42 seconds on back-to-back dunks and a three-pointer in transition. Behind Horner’s first half scoring outburst, the Armor (13-12) held a 54-44 lead over Idaho (8-15) at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Armor and Stampede battled to a 28-28 tie, giving the Armor a commanding 82-72 advantage through three.
Undeterred, the Stampede quickly erased the 10-point deficit early in the fourth quarter, starting the frame on a 13-2 run to take their first lead of the second half, 85-84. The two teams would trade leads six times in the next minute and a half, but back-to-back threes from Lance Hurdle (20 points) helped the Armor seal the victory down the stretch.
Joining Horner and Hurdle in double figures tonight for the Armor were JamesOn Curry (20 points, 8 assists), Jerry Smith (14 points), L.D. Williams (13 points, 6 rebounds) and Jeff Foote (12 points, 11 rebounds).
Tonight’s victory equals the Armor’s win total from a season ago exactly halfway through the 2011-12 regular season.
Terrico White, who was re-acquired by the Stampede today after being waived due to injury, scored a team-high 20 points tonight for Idaho. Paul Carter registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Seth Tarver chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Armor will look for their third consecutive victory Saturday evening when they host the Reno Bighorns at 7:00 PM EST at the MassMutual Center. The Stampede travel to Maine to take on the Red Claws tomorrow evening.
